We think the worry is over after successfully getting through interviews and accepting an offer. Oh no no no, there is a big checklist of things "to do" before actually starting a Disney International Program and it can be a little overwhelming especially if you have never done anything like this before. I thought I would put together a little checklist of things that need to be done in the things preceding a program which will also serve as my own little checklist, to see where I'm upto in the process.

<strike>Accept Offer & Upload Documents onto DOC</strike>
Upon the offer of a position on the CRP you will be directed to accept via the candidate portal (link will be sent). This will contain your offer letter which will have your program start and end date upon it, as well as your role. You are also required to upload several documents onto Disney's DOC website, which includes a scan of your passport, any previous visas and some personal details. This must all be done within 30 days of receiving an offer.

<strike>Program Assessment Fee ($154.50)</strike>
Additionally, within 30 days of receiving an offer you must pay the program assessment fees. This pays for amenities within the Disney housing complexes as well as any housing events that are regularly thrown.

<strike>DBS Check & Fee (£80)</strike>
Disney requires that Yummy Jobs perform a Criminal Background Check on their behalf before the commencement of any program, the fee of which is payable via the Yummy Jobs website immediately after you receive an offer. The paperwork will be sent in the post to your home address along with detailed instructions on how to fill it out. This needs to be sent back to Yummy Jobs asap as the check can take upto 12 weeks. Upon receiving your DBS certificate back in the post, it has to be scanned and emailed to Yummy Jobs.

<strike>Flight</strike>
There is nothing more satisfying than booking a one-way flight to Orlando. There are several options and airlines you can choose from including price comparison websites, STA travel (where you initially only have to put down a deposit) and airlines own websites. I've personally found Thomas Cook the cheapest but I'm probably going to end up going with Virgin Atlantic, as I have air miles that I can use to get a Premium Economy flight for £300 or am Economy Flight for £160. Decisions decisions.

<strike>Medical Insurance</strike>
It is required that all International Programs participants have medical insurance when entering the USA. For those on the CRP, there are 2 options. One is to purchase a plan covering the whole 12 months of the program from a UK provider. Yummyjobs do recommend you contact Yummy Travel to ask for a quote, as being a YJ participant we get 20% off. When I inquired the standard cover was £349 for the whole year. The other option is to pay for 4 months of insurance, then swap over to Disney's own medical insurance which will be taken out of your paycheck every month. The quote I got for 4 months was £195 for standard cover. I will probably try and pay for a years cover before I go out there so I don't have to worry about it, but will definitely be getting some advice on it as the whole insurance thing is a little confusing. Do be aware that operating participants, such as those on the HRC program, do not have access to Disney's medical insurance so will have to purchase cover for their program beforehand.

<strike>Visa Application Process ($190 + $30 passport return + travel)</strike>
The visa process is probably the scariest part of the pre arrival tasks to be honest. You know when you walk past a police officer on the street and think "look innocent, look innocent!" and try and look all nonchalant even though you've done nothing wrong. Yeah...that.
Visa instructions arrive 2 monthsish before arrival via the DOC dashboard with a document called I-797, which will need to be printed. This now means you can now log onto the embassy website and fill out an online form to apply for a Q-1 visa, which includes some eligibility questions and the DS-160 form. After this an embassy appointment can be booked and paid for, as well as choosing a delivery option for your passport to be returned. You are required to travel to the embassy in either London or Belfast. I've been to the London embassy twice before and its rather simple to find, getting off the tube at Marble Arch and walking a few streets over. Do be aware that no electronic devices are allowed inside the embassy, although I have a feeling they have changed these rules recently to allow mobile phones inside. Apparently people generally don't wait too long when applying for a Q-1 visa, but I've had two different experiences with wait times so cannot say how long it will take. When getting my J-1 visa it took hours, while for my CD-1 visa I was in and out. First you are called upto a window to hand in your forms and take fingerprints. After this there is another wait before being called upto the second window where the visa interview is held. They mostly ask questions such as "where will you be working in the US" and "where are you currently employed". It may sound scary but its nothing to worry about. Just answer honestly and you will be fine. Then approve your visa there and then and inform you that your passport will be returned in 5 working days.

DORMS
This is the most exciting step! A week or two before arrival you will get an email from Disney asking you to log onto DORMS, the housing management system. This will let you pick your housing preference and link with 1-8 more people (the number depends on arrival date) to be roommates. I remember when DORMS first launched the year I was doing my summer program and we got so excited that we could actually pick roommates and note our preference. Of course this is not guaranteed and there is also an option to "go in blind" if you don't mind.

It's currently 138 days to go for me and I have just sent off my DBS paperwork and am getting ready to book my flights next payday! It still doesn't feel real and I don't think it truly will until I'm sitting on that plane getting ready to jet off to the most magical place on earth for a whole year.
Well hello there, it's been a while hasn't it? If you didn't follow my International College Program (or Cultural Exchange Program as its now dubbed) back in 2013, this blog was a kind of secondary outlet to my YouTube channel in where I could explain things a little more in detail. As it were, after my program ended I didn't see much point in posting beyond the usual post-icp catch ups. Fast forward a few years later, and things are about to become abit more active around here.
On December 5th 2016 I received an email accepting me onto Disney's Cultural Representative Program.

IM MOVING BACK TO WALT DISNEY WORLD!

If you don't know what the Cultural Representative Program is, it's a 12 month program in where young people from all over the world come together to work either in Animal Kingdom, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Guest Relations or in Epcot's World Showcase, depending on what country they are from. I am so excited and proud to be representing my home, the United Kingdom, in the UK Pavilion within Epcot and cannot wait to be back in the magic. I will be starting my journey on June 12th 2017 until June 7th 2018 in the role of Food & Beverage.

Do keep an eye on my Youtube Channel which will have videos leading upto my program and here on the blog where I shall share my bucket list, application & interview advice, any pre arrival steps and my time out in Florida.
Reading/listening about other peoples experiences gave me an idea of what to expect, and while a few of them were out-dated, the basics were still relatively similar. Today I wish to share with you some YouTube channels and blogs which you may find helpful when applying for a program, or just as an interesting watch/read. When I was looking for vlogs in particular, there was a lack of “during the program” footage, which I’m happy to say is now no longer the case! I loved that I kept a record of my summer, for my own memories and so others can get a feel for what it’s like to spend the summer working for the mouse. It’s great to see many more British ICP vloggers about these days. Now these recommendations are going to be mostly from recent programs (2013 and 2014) as I'm sure we’ve all seen the popular videos from the likes of Adam, Gabriella and Catherine (participants whose videos helped my own application process). So without further ado, here’s a list of some blogs and vlogs you really should check out!

Hayley the Noob (2013)

Hayley was one of my flatmates during the ICP program who vlogged along with me, although she sucks and still hasn't uploaded all her footage, over a year later. Her videos are all during the program itself, so gives a great overview of what you can expect from your days off. Plus I'm in alot of them, which by default makes them amazing. Haha!

Rachel (2013)

Rachel is another one of my ICP buddies, who I also went travelling with after the program! She has many detailed videos about the application process, leading up to the program, some bits from the actual program and life after. She’s also vlogged her recent Walt Disney World trip too!

Rebecca Bretherton (2014)

A more recent one, Rebecca was part of the 2014 program and has some great videos leading up to the program and some fab vlogs during her time in Florida. I do follow current/recent participants who YouTube (which makes me die a little inside because i want to re-live the ICP so badly), as I love to watch Disney Parks vlogs in general and am rather nosey.

JustAScottishLass (2014)

Another 2014 participant who's videos I recently discovered! Some great “during the program” footage and her accent is amazing!

Emma Josephine (2013)

We were on the same program but I only actually started talking to Emma after the program! She’s so lovely! I came across her blog online which documents her summer working for the mouse as well gives an interesting account of her trek to Mt Everest Base Camp for charity!

Dan @ Disney

So this guy is out there on his fourth program! He’s done 2 ICP’s and is currently on his 2nd CRP! I'm slightly jealous, not gonna lie! His blog is basically Disney International Program 101 and a must read for all future applicants.

There are many many more British ICP blogs and videos out there so don't just stop at this list. A great place is the WDWIP forums, particularly for ‘pre-facebook-group’. I actually met my Disney roommate Jen via the forums!
Remember, if you have any questions feel free to leave me a comment or send me a tweet @hippymeow! Also if you have an ICP blog/youtube or know of any great ones do link them in the comments!

xox

Bloglovin | Twitter | Instagram | Youtube | Beauty Blog
Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120744457041880408.post-29896845220890728952014-05-16T18:06:00.001-07:002014-05-16T18:06:29.771-07:00Disneyland: August 2013
<img title="_DSC0198edit" style="border-top: 0px; Yeah, i suck! But anyway, here is a little peek at what I got up to in Disneyland last August. I visited Anaheim after my ICP program with Jen, Becky and Rachael, although I spent my time in Disneyland with Jen while the other two did their own thing. We had an amazing time, probably one of the best moments of my whole life. Walking down the original main street in the footsteps of Walt himself was a surreal experience. Never did I think I would get to visit the place where it all started. Disney World may be the most magical place on earth, but Disneyland is without a doubt the happiest place on earth. I’ve never felt so relaxed. The crowds weren't too bad and the whole atmosphere was less touristy, more homely in a way.

We had three days there so spent our first day exploring, going on rides and meeting a few characters before heading over to California Adventures to explore and watch World of Color. One thing I do want to mention, is how different character experiences are in Disneyland. They just walk around unattended! You can find Cruella strutting her stuff, Peter Pan sitting by the wishing well and Mary Poppins taking a stroll down Main Street. Additionally the shows are perfection. World of Color is just something else and we loved Soundsational parade so much, we watched it 5 times haha!

On day two we spent most of the day in California Adventures before heading over to watch Magical and Fantasmic. Again, these were such amazing experiences. For the fireworks, everyone was sat down! There was no pushing and shoving to find a good spot, just everyone sat down in front of the castle, chatting and relaxing. This was the same for the parades too. Everyone was just sitting down having a jolly old time.

Our third and final day was a little special, as it was long lost friends week. You should have seen my excitement when I found out that Jane and Tarzan were going to be there. They’re my favourite Disney characters but also very rare to meet in the parks, so I feel so lucky to have been here for this event. We also got to meet Meg, Hercules and Hades. Meg was so freaking amazing! Exactly how I would imagine film Meg to act. Additionally we met the Pocahontas gang (Meeko, John Smith, Governor Ratcliffe and Pocahontas herself) and Merlin, who was such a cutie! I 100% prefer interactions at Disneyland. They feel so much more involving and personal. Another magical moment was when I was skyping my mum at the top of main street near the entrance, I had the camera on and was showing her Pluto who was doing a meet close by. Next minute Pluto pops up behind my and starts waving at mum, grabs my arm and walks with me to the area where they go backstage, giving me a big hug before I leave and getting down on one knee haha. All the while my mum was still on the other end. At this point Mickey Mouse pops out, all the while still on skype, so I give my phone to a nearby cast member so Jen could snap a picture of me and Mickey. The cast member then starts talking to my mum haha! Best cast members/characters ever!

I would love to go back to Disneyland again and would really recommend that any Walt Disney World fan go to Disneyland at some point. It was a last minute thing, booked between me finishing university and heading off to work on the cruise ship. We got a pretty good deal, staying on international drive for 10 nights, 3rd June – 13th June! It just so happens that I’m going on exactly the same day and on exactly the same flight that I was on when heading out for my ICP last year *tear*.

Alot of things have changed since I was last there. For one, the paper fastpasses have been retired in favour of a new electronic system. This new system enables guests to select their fastpasses in advance, from 60 days in advance for on site guests and 30 days in advance for off site guests/annual pass holders. These can be booked via the My Disney Experience website or the mobile app. This system also enables a user to book dining reservations and add event reminders (such as a parade time) to make up a sort of itinerary. I’m still really on the fence about this system, as planning times for things is something I would rather do on the day. Of course you can book things on the day via the fastpass booths placed around the parks, but then you have a smaller chance of getting a time you want (and there could be queues depending on how busy the park is). Another disadvantage is that the standby line times could considerably increase as I believe its an 80% fastpass priority for letting onto a ride, and if all the slots for that hour have been booked its going to have a ripple effect. A recent change has seen the introduction of guests being able to book extra fastpasses via the booths, once their initial ones have been used. This is definitely a welcome change, although it will hinder those who have firework/show viewings. Oh well, one step at a time!

Overall, there are some benefits and there are some downsides to the system. I have made a video, which you can see below, that discusses some of my first impressions and goes into more detail about it. I will be making part 2 after I have experienced it in the parks, about how well it worked and how it effected standby wait times.

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2hfVItsTGRaSaQabqmKoJ3gWafGL-hYvq9BCgOzeO4b2ARc0n9CR2d8QpSxqbBzoXOZox78WFAjLAUrITu04KwkDVMJkvWrAOHLeBh_YQnF6C5YrmO8IACuSN4676soRIvyXFX7XSVZA/?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('0e0424fb-8a2c-4b7f-9b9c-6d0d4da706bd'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

Of course, another trip to Disney means I will also have vlogs! On the J-1 Visa you will have 30 days after you’re finish date to travel around America. This gives plenty of time to hit lots of different places! I’m not going to lie, it can be expensive so have some money set aside for it. Of course you will be getting paid while working for Disney to make sure to save some spending money. I will talk about costs in abit though!

Firstly I want to talk about travel buddies and deciding where to visit. Some people decide who to travel with very early on. I already had my travel group sorted by the end of November (we found out we got onto the program on the 2nd). I was lucky that two of the girls I met at interviews, Becky and Jennifer were interested in travelling to the same places as me, so we made a separate conversation/chat on facebook for it. I believe we also asked on the general facebook group for another person to travel with, to which Rachel then joined our little party. We discussed places we wanted to visit and had a look on the internet for good deals on flights and accommodation. Rachel organized a lot of the itinerary around the number of days we all agreed to stay in each place. One thing I would recommend is travel in a four. Alot of hotel rooms in America charge per room, and most rooms have 2 double beds, so it will work out cheaper. Don’t worry if you haven't found anybody yet though or still haven't decided what to do. Booking a flexible flight back from the US is the best plan of action as you can change it then if your plans change. Ask around in the Facebook group, but I would suggest having a plan beforehand. When in Florida you will still have a group of British friends, but everyone disperses to hang out with room-mates, work colleagues etc so it will be more difficult to find a travel buddy. I don’t think i ever actually hung out with Becky in Disney, and only really went out with Rachel twice! As we did already have everything booked and planned though, we didn't have to worry about it.

Next is the actual booking. We all agreed on flight times and days, booking the domestic through the Vrigin America website. Our homeward flight was booked as a return when choosing the initial flight to America, travelling home from JFK in New York. We also booked accommodation before going out there, staying at two hotels and one apartment. For the hotels, we booked through Booking.com and made sure to read reviews, find a great price and make sure we were in a good location. Now New York was different. Hotels in Manhattan are very expensive, so we took another route and booked an apartment through Air B&B. We spent alot less than we would have staying in a hotel and got to experience a different side of New York. I could almost imagine that I lived there… almost haha!

Finally, I’m going to talk about costs. My two Virgin America flights cost $337.80 while the Vrigin Atlantic flight was £583.37 return, I’m counting that as separate though as that was needed anyway. For LA, staying at Quality Inn Near Hollywood Walk of Fame for 5 nights, it was $655 (tax not included) split between the four of us. Our hotel in Anaheim was a Travelodge at $267 (tax not included) for 3 nights, split between the four of us. The costs were paid upon arrival, so it would be easy enough to save some wages up for them. The apartment on the other hand, we had to pay upfront. It worked out at £186.50 each for 6 nights. All together It worked out at just over £500 each for the trip (aka accommodation and flights), not including food, Disneyland park tickets, the New York pass and the 3 nights we spent at a Disney resort before starting our adventure. I personally took £700 with me for spend on a FairFX card plus whatever was left from my Disney wages. I did end up adding another £100 - £200 to the FairFX card (cant remember exactly how much) while I was travelling and did get paid a final Disney pay check of $200 also. It is expensive, but completely worth it as I probably wont get another chance to visit these places for a long long time. I got a job in my third year purely to save for Disney and travelling. I worked hard and worked lots of hours at Disney to be able to afford what i spend on merchandise and travel. It was the best experience of my life and worth every penny. Besides, how much does a 2 week trip to Disney World normally cost?

I hope this gave you a little insight to travelling after your Disney ICP and if you have any more questions please feel free to comment or tweet me (@hippymeow)! I also realised I didnt actually post about my time in LA, Disneyland and NY, so expect to see some photo diaries coming up!

xox

Bloglovin | Twitter | Instagram | Youtube | Beauty Blog Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120744457041880408.post-49481656463439770742014-01-24T18:28:00.001-08:002014-01-24T18:30:22.240-08:00CRP Applications are now open!

Hello there! I’m just posting a quick one to let you know that applications for Disney’s Cultural Representative Program are now open! If you don't know what the CRP is, it’s a 12 month program which will give you the chance to work in the UK pavilion in Epcot. You will be representing the UK, sharing our culture while experiencing others. I will be applying for it! I was going to keep it secret at first but I’m not too bothered about sharing if I don't get on. I didn’t get past the application stage in Autumn 2013 but this year I am determined to make my application the best it can be. I WILL work for the mouse again. Of course when I do finally get onto the program (one day I will, i swear it) this blog and my YouTube will become an outlet for that, so keep an eye out over the next few months. If I get onto the program, I’m bound to make a million posts about it haha.

If you wish to apply, go to the Yummy Jobs website and select the Cultural Representative Program. Good luck!

xox
Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120744457041880408.post-78137959546319676512013-12-08T05:00:00.001-08:002014-01-07T06:53:59.725-08:00About my Role in Magic Kingdom Outdoor Foods
Hey! Seeing as the ICP 2014 acceptances rolled out last week, I thought I would make an in depth video about my role in Magic Kingdom Outdoor Foods! I worked as a Vendor and a Parade Vendor, so in the video I speak about both of them, including a typical working day. I loved working in ODF and even though its hard work, I can honestly say its the best job I've ever had. Anyone who has been given QSFB can be placed in outdoor foods, so I hope I can provide a little insight as i couldn't find much on it before I went out there.

If you want to see my post on the training and what the costumes look like you can click here! If your new to my blog/youtube and have been accepted/are applying for the College Program, then you may also want to check out my vlogs as I documented my whole summer which you can check out on my channel here.

<img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-GPc1O--Pv-U/UqRtVyMl8dI/AAAAAAAAGME/UrLpjqe_v84/videofea2491574fc%25255B22%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('c679460f-7e6b-4f11-899b-e1fccce348f2'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

If you have any questions, as always, leave a comment or feel free to tweet/email me. It’s crazy how times flies. This past year has literally been amazing. It’s been such a journey and I’ve met so many people. The ICP changed my life and now, looking back, I know it’s by far the best thing I have ever done. It’s so hard to describe it to people because I just cant express it in words.

I just wanted to write this post in a kind of tribute really and to document that moment I found out I was going to Florida. I found out I had gotten onto the program while I was at work. Back then I was a Charity Fundraiser and had just gotten out of someone's house having signed them up. Frustratingly I was in an area which had horrid signal and my emails were loading so slowly. I quickly checked my phone before plodding on and I saw i had mail from Yummy Jobs. I knew that was it. The email wouldn't open on my email app so I had to go onto the internet browser. In that few minuets, I really was terrified. My heart was pounding in my chest. When I opened the email and found out I was off to the most magical place in the world, i actually screamed. My team mates had gone on ahead of me so I ran to catch up with them squealing. I remember my team leader turning around and me diving on him going “I got it! I'm going to Disney!” My whole team hugged me and congratulated me while i basically had a freak out. I then phoned mum and dad, the boyfriend and my friends screaming down the phone at them!

I would recommend doing to program to everyone and wish desperately that I could go back. I will be applying for the year long CRP and will keep applying for it until i get to go back to working for the mouse. I’ve included a little overview of the program below including a look at my bucket list and ride counts.

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsrnJ9RMnX8DFxE68_aPFVo-3Zt_dGyoSHS4kAzyNopBcVIXhRGoo4Cg08jvH-OXiXbl0An86w0Bkkn2TUolLnWObPCqMYZxI_VLRXo8NvhXM_z6d8yBuXcsJbDMHmtkF6uR9kE9mQsTo/?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('7152d8b9-b06d-4252-b1cd-64a3eb52e795'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

Best summer ever.

xox
Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120744457041880408.post-17045788245255859302013-10-17T06:43:00.001-07:002014-01-07T06:53:59.656-08:00The Last Week Working in Magic Kingdom

My last week at work came around way too quickly for my liking. We had been told for most of the program that we are not aloud to trade away any shifts, call in sick or accept early releases for the last week as we are pre-paid. While it is true that you cannot trade away any shifts the rest is false. We’re not pre-paid (which is a pain for those who are going straight back to England) and we can get ER’s if the managers have approved it. It just so happens that me and my work friend rachel, another mobile vendor, were offered an ADO (approved day off) on Sunday 4th as soon as we got to the ODF garage as we weren't needed. Of course we jumped on it and tottled off to Epcot, riding things we hadn’t done yet (such as Ellen’s energy adventure) before heading off to Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic. Not a bad start to the week I'd say!

You can see my schedule for the last three weeks above! As a mobile vendor I got alot of ER’s due to weather (especially in the 2 weeks before this) and was sometimes swapped to vending locations. I’ll talk more about that in another post though! Anyway! Last week!

During that week I made sure I got to see the shows and parades on my route around Magic Kingdom, sometimes being a little naughty and just parking up instead of walking infront of them. On the last shift, me and Rachel practically ran back to the garage after ELP to park our carts and rushed out onto mainstreet to watch our last “working” celebrate the magic and wishes. It was a sad moment standing there at MSB knowing it had all come to an end, bumping out for the last time and saying goodbye to the team.

Working in Outdoor Foods was tough but I got to experience things no other role did. Best job I've ever had!

xox
Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120744457041880408.post-50012349628405085402013-10-12T09:42:00.001-07:002014-01-07T06:53:59.693-08:00Chatham Square 3 Bedroom
I realised I’ve never really posted about our apartment over here! We lived in apartment 28303, a 3 bedroom in Chatham Square. Luckily through Dorms we could pick our roommates, so I got to live with my best friends. I don’t really know what to say about it other than I miss our little apartment so much. Believe me when i say it was never as tidy as these photos haha! I miss coming home from work and flopping on the living room floor, us one by one coming home and each flopping! Our balcony, near the end, also became the home of an evil wasp which me and Rachael tried to scare away…with Rachael's pencil stick…yeh it didn't happen haha!

Chatham is a lovely complex to be honest! Our place was a 2 min walk from the main gates/bus stop and right in front of the pool/mailbox. The beds are pretty un comfy and squeaky, you get used to it, although mine wasn't half as bad as Hayley’s (fun memory: when she was in the bathroom I went and jumped in her bed and pretended to sleeps). I roomed with Jennifer while Hayley and Rachael roomed together. I miss it more than anything.

<img title="1380653_10151960757318698_642089567_n" style="border-top: 0px; The event is held at Chatham Square on the field by the pool which was conveniently right outside our apartment block. There’s food (although not many veggi options), music, games and meet and greets with the fab 5 (plus daisy). It was such an amazing time seeing all our British friends and meeting my room-mates work friends.

We got a few goodies from Disney including a certificate of completion, an ear hat and a cute little box.

After the event we headed off to Magic Kingdom where we watched the castle show, danced away at the Move it Shake It parade and the Tomorrowland Dance party then went on Buzz. Rachael managed to get reservations at Be Our Guest that evening so at 8ish we headed off to the restaurant. Having been there twice before I decided on having the Leek and Potato Soup starter as my main and a desert, the chocolate cake is so freaking amazing there. After a little meet and greet with the beast and a ride on the haunted mansion we headed off to our favourite frontierland haunt to round off the day watching ELP.

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgioizCfPlWiIuidkFrzw0WH7_mBi1mcO_HZkPOpqVoob45JQirQYkPghKYHZnlPMMIFuNxgxi3-lnKsbd2c4UYbhRH50ognL8oIbr_96cr85lI_C76Qz_HggHAU-kTPP3505372xN3oXU/?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('3c67ffe8-1dc6-4cca-a264-a963576ec0ae'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

It was lovely to have all of us hanging out together! There are so many amazing ones in Walt Disney World that i simply couldn't pick just one favourite. Lets start with Magic Kingdom shall we! I’m not going to cover every single one, just the favourites while giving you an ICP memory.

Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade, also known as the 3 o’clock parade (when is the 3 o’clock parade?) is the one I got to walk every day while parade vending or have front row seats while regular vending. I’ve seen it so many times that I can sing every word to the soundtrack and do all the dances. My favourite place to watch this from (while working) is the top of main street. It’s not too crowded so I got an amazing view from Popcorn 1.

Dream Along with Mickey is the castle show which is on a few times throughout the day. I watched this one a lot as a guest and also while working. I used to park my cart on the road bit in front of the castle and sing along. I had so many guests ask me how many times i’d seen the show haha! I wish I would have kept count.

Electric Light Parade we watched every night as guests in Magic Kingdom! My roommate Jen did costuming for ELP so it meant a lot to her, plus it was awesome seeing the characters run up to her in the crowd having recognised her. I must say it most definitely grew on me and its now one of my favourite things to see in MK. Our spot is usually outside Country Bear Jamboree for the 11o’clock parade. The area is practically empty so lots of character interaction.

Celebrate the Magic i believe is limited time magic, but its in the top three of my favourite shows. It’s basically a visual show accompanied by a badass sountrack projected onto the castle. The end bit, when Walt appears and says the famous “It was all started by a mouse” bit gets me every time. I basically got paid to watch this and Wishes at popcorn 2/MSB whenever I worked main street as we never got guests wanted to be served during it.

Wishes. This deserves a post of its own. How can I even describe Wishes. It’s just Disney. It’s magic, dreams and belief all intertwined into a marvellous night time spectacular. I’ve watched this from all over the park plus from a distance at the Polynesian and the roof of the Contemporary hotels. By far the best place to to watch it from mainstreet/infront of the castle. As I said above, I did practically get paid to watch this every night, even if I was in a different land, so probably saw it from every location in the park! Fantasmic may be my favourite show, but wishes will always be a first night and last night kinda deal.

Saving the best for last, Fantasmic! This was my all time favourite show at Walt Disney World. During the 9 weeks I was there I watched it 6 times and then once in Disneyland California. Just everything about it is perfection. The story, the soundtrack, the visuals. I liked the Hollywood Studios arena better than in DL but the show across the country had a better story (and Maleficent Dragon).

There are others shows such as illuminations at Epcot, Mickeys Jungle Jammin Parade at Animal Kingdom, Move it Shake it at Magic Kingdom and many “attraction” shows, but these are just a few of my favourites and ones which have the best memories. Also all photographs in this post were taken by me!

PS. I know i sucked at updating this blog during my ICP of my day-to-day happenings but I’m getting there with the highlights.

xox
Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120744457041880408.post-78764827861700170982013-10-02T15:23:00.001-07:002014-01-07T06:53:59.728-08:00Jane, Craig and Daniel do Wet’nWild & Universal

For 2 of the 10 days that Daniel and Craig visited, we went to universal and it’s waterpark, Wet’nWild. Well, I say universal, we only actually went into Island of Adventure. Craig is a huge harry potter and marvel fan so they were our main hits. The first time there was abit of a disaster to be honest. It took us ages to get there and home as the I-ride is useless. We probably spent about 2 hours in the park as Craig wasn't feeling too well tackling forbidden journey, dragon challenge and food in the three broomsticks, before heading back. The second time there went much better. We spent the morning at Wet’n’Wild, which was alright but not overly amazing. Most of our time was used splashing around in the wave pool before heading to ihop for lunch. Hello pancakes!

Pancakes are probably one of my favourite things about America. Oh how i love them. Anyway, that evening in Island was so much better! It was practically empty so we walked onto lots of rides including Jurassic Park, Flight of the Hippogriff and Ripsaw falls (I don't think I've ever gotten so wet on a ride inn my life). I’m glad I got to see Craig's happy little face when we entered Hogsmeade but its such a pain to get to universal when staying on Disney property! I would recommend staying on I-Drive instead if you are planning on going there for a couple of days, or rent a car.

I did vlog the days a little so if your interested have a gander below.

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhugevRYLiITeQcoD-XbFy-C_sZ8FJxuQx-ZvokvX8EzV1CKpzNkWleRJXeSSOdEBnHPtLVfFDDQa_hvg0bsNUZMNGXD6fKB-6S9_1AliXh29rd6d_XYfKxaGmbxo8PwDcsCfQrYz9vegk/?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('48993af2-c10e-404d-b323-69214774980b'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

xox
Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120744457041880408.post-84711699100797136472013-09-19T11:57:00.001-07:002014-01-07T06:53:59.737-08:00Walt Disney World’s Pop Century Resort

When Craig and Daniel came to visit me in Florida, we all stayed in Pop Century Resort, a budget Disney hotel themed around popular culture from the 60s to the 90s! We got 2 separate rooms in the 80s section, connected by a door at 50% off for Craig (as I was staying with him) and 40% off for Daniel with my cast member discount. The rooms were decent sized although a bit on the small side compared to Port Orleans Riverside (which was huge). What can you expect from budget though really? Beds were comfy, the room was clean and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The only downside was that the resort was full of Brazilian Tour groups. Not pleasant when you want a quiet dip in the pool before bed and there's tonnes of Brazilian teenagers banging drums and singing loudly at 11pm.

The food court was quick service with several different counters for different “types” of food with three beverage stations. The food served was standard QS Disney food with some added extras that changed around depending on what time it was. My favourite thing to eat there was probably the breakfast. I love me some breakfast, so pancakes or waffles were on the table every morning without fail. One of their specialities is the Pop Waffle which was delicious and pretty huge. Omnomnom! I also really enjoyed the desserts (of course i did, its me!)

I reckon when we visit on holiday in the future we are going to go for a Moderate hotel, as having stayed in both brackets, there is certainly a difference in what you get. If you are on a budget though, this is a perfect place to stay, especially if you have kids! In fact I would highly recommended this if your visiting with kids. As its just us two, we would rather have somewhere more “grown up” in the future.

xox
Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120744457041880408.post-25686425776894111972013-09-15T16:40:00.001-07:002014-01-07T06:53:59.672-08:003 Weeks Since I Returned to England

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnGNNDrOdVKT9xkFUF9duIAwXPBkFFOS1o5gRlWs0NpgMucPptYeeJWSvRzojRnjfwe9QODGuIQMjnHkHO2uz26rtO8D8yIxjTYpieIjxr634bKYzJBpGL_0CPmtCctDjCHMxzRBa8res/?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('34b9422f-1ad5-48c5-b7f0-c1a5775f13bf'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

I have so much still to tell about my program! It’s been 3 weeks now since i arrived back in England and i miss it so much. I’ve been redecorating my bedroom and preparing to start my post-grad course so haven't had too much time to blog over here. I have been catching up with vlogs though so go and check them out! I made a little trailer for my channel that I wish to share with you today. I actually love it to be honest. It was the day my boyfriend and best friend were coming to visit! We had booked to stay at pop century resort (more on that in an up-coming post). I managed to get quite a few days off work, traded away shifts ect, so I got to basically have a little holiday in between my program (apart from working the odd days). On the first night after a little explore of the hotel, we popped to downtown Disney for a wander and a meal at the Rainforest Cafe! The food was alright, nothing too mind blowing but it came very quickly which was a nice surprise, as when I last dined at its sister restaurant The T-Rex Cafe, service was shockingly slow.

The next 10 days were definitely some of the best of my summer. Getting to spend time with Craig and Daniel in one of my favourite places on earth made it even more Magical! The first full day we spent in Hollywood Studios and Epcot, riding rides, exploring and meeting a few characters. The second day was Universal Island of Adventures time, day three I was in work then day four Wet’n’Wild and more Island of Adventures (separate post about that). Finally on Saturday we ventured to one of my favourite parks, Animal Kingdom! The Festival of the Lion King, Nemo the Musical, Kilimanjaro Safari and Everest were the main hits with some other bits thrown in before the normal 4pm Florida Thunder Storm hit (although the first of their visit so far!)

At this point Magic Kingdom was blocked out for guests so unfortunately wasn't on the agenda, something we were all pretty bummed about. But, luck struck! It was announced on the Friday that the block was being lifted on Saturday 13th! Initially we didn't plan to go there until Monday as I was working a 9:30am – 22:5pm on the Sunday (ouch). Though my lovely managers, after I told them my boyfriend was in town, let me go at 4pm! Score! After nipping back to the hotel to refresh myself/change, off we went to Magic Kingdom!

The feeling of jubilation, walking through that tunnel into main street with Craig and Daniel nearly rivalled that of when I first entered Magic Kingdom a month before (not quite though!) That evening we watched Celebrate the Magic and Wishes after doing some rides and me basically giving them a tour of my home park haha! Even more lucky, Sunday meant extra magic hours! The park was open until 1am so we did some Tomorrowland rides and ate at Tomorrowland Terrace (the food there actually making all three of us a little nauseous to be honest).

I think we entered Magic Kingdom every single day after that until their departure on Thursday 18th July. Alot of character hunting entailed (a separate post on that will be coming) after that, mostly in Epcot and Magic Kingdom. So, on a joint day off we rose bright and early to begin our task. We didn't really have a set rules to be honest. The general idea was ride some rides, get an icon photo and get a fast pass. The plan was Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood studios then Magic Kingdom.

They see me vloggin’…
Anyway, i think the challenge was quite a success overall. The only problem, it gets completely booked up for months in advance. Luckily there are often stand by slots available if you head there at 4pm (possibly some later!) so I’ve actually had the pleasure of eating there 3 times in all three dining rooms (they have now opened up the rose dining room for dinner). The prices are decent but the menu isn’t that extensive. There is only one vegetarian main, ratatouille, which I did get on my first time there. In following visits I got a soup starter as my main.

The decor is beautiful! My favourite room is the ballroom, with it stunning chandeliers to the snowfall scene out of the windows. I’ve been a huge fan of the franchise since I started to read the books at 10 years old. When I first heard of the new themed land in Universals Island of Adventure never did I think I would have the chance to visit it, not any time in the near future anyway. Honestly, it’s one of the main reasons I decided to get the annual pass (which is $261 for the preferred pass if you are wondering).

The land did not disappoint. Apart from getting pretty crowded sometimes, they really did a good job. From the castle looming in the distance to Honeydukes sweet interior. I’ve been there about 5 times now and rode the Forbidden Journey (amazing ride!) 7 times, it never gets old. I’ve even braved Dragon Challenge several times, which for me is a big achievement. I hate rollercoasters!

If you haven’t been before I really recommend checking it out. The rest of Universal is just a bonus, although Disney will always be number one. *grumble about express passes* If you get the annual pass going three times makes it worth it, hello Florida Resident discount. I for one adore star wars so was pretty excited to meet some characters and of course, ride Star Tours! I especially loved the hoopla event which went on at the hat in the evening. Baddies > Goodies! What an amazing weekend with some amazing people. I know I'm pretty behind with blogging out here, so so busy. I am only around a week and half behind with my vlogs though so check them out to see what I’m upto! Anyway, after traditions we had our first visit to magic kingdom! It was pretty late by the time we arrived, so the evening mostly consisted of watching the Electrical Parade and Wishes from behind the castle. I was a little disappointed we watched it from behind, but the crowds were so huge that we couldn't even get to main street. It’s no biggie now as I watch the show practically every night at work anyway!

A few of the guys were starting training early the next morning so they left while me, jenn, hayley, andrew and ashleigh went on the haunted mansion and it’s a small world. I’ve been so busy over here and cant believe it’s been nearly a month already. I thought I would write a little bit about my role and training through, as its completely different to what I expected. So Magic Kingdom Outdoor Foods! My first day of training was Magic Kingdom specific. We had a full park tour (in traditions clothes I may add, so very hot) before then splitting off into role specific groups. We were then taken into a room and given a lanyard and ‘Earning my ears” tag. After a Food and Beverage introduction it was home time (and Star Wars weekend time! See my vlogs for a peek). Day 2 was at Disney university and I gotta say, half the class nearly fell asleep. This was then proceeded by e-learning (the bane of training).

This is what my first week of on the job training looked like! Not gonna lie, it was tough. On my first night I finished at 3:30am (when i was suppose to finish at 1am) and on my second night i finished at 2am. By the end of training I was exhausted, upset and wanted to go home. My first week was equally as tough, especially closing popcorn. I'm glad to say though, it gets better. Once you get used to it things gets quicker and you start getting out on time. The last day of training you get to taste all the ice creams too! Yum! The pay check will definitely put a smile on your face. I am generally working between 42 – 47 hours a week with 2 days off and can get like 250-300 dollars after rent!

[L-R, T-B: Mobile Vending, Tomorrow Land, Fantasy Land, West Side]

Here in Outdoor Foods we have several costumes for each land, as we could be working anywhere in the park. So far my favourite place to work has been Tomorrowland and Mainstreet (which i forgot to take a picture of oops). It’s never a bad day when you get paid to watch the parades and wishes (during them we get like, no guests wanting to be served).

One thing I didn't expect for ODF was the closing aspect. When the wagon closes we have to take inventory with the stockers, head back to the garage and refill our drinks wagon then if we’re at any other wagon but ice-cream, go back and clean.

Next week I'm getting trained for Mobile Vending, were the hours look so much better! 1:30pm – 10:45pm everyday (for 5 days) woop woop! It beats my regular 11 hour shifts that for sure. Luckily this is the week my boyfriend visits so I wont finish too late to get the guest bus to our hotel (pop century). Happy days.

xox
Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03632439824886222117noreply@blogger.com0
